Factors Effecting Car Performance

As years pass by performance of car get degraded gradually. One may realize the change in some cases only after driving a newer car. But what has happens to the car and what can be done to revive the performance of the car. As there are multiple systems in the car which are subject to wear and tear and effects of ageing there will be a resultant decrease in performance.

One of the reasons for reduction of power in car in the gradual clogging of injectors. Injectors are the components that inject fuel in to the engine. As more and more fuel passes through the injectors their orifice and fuel passage start accumulating residues from fuel. They gradually get clogged with any residues left by fuel and the additives in the fuel.

Over time the aperture of fuel jet reduces in size and the spray pattern also gets distorted. This results in lesser fuel delivery and hence lesser power output. Clogged air filters also can contribute to lower performance of a car. With less air going in to the engine less amount of fuel can only be injected resulting in lesser power. In a well maintained car however air filter will be in good condition as this is inspected during service.

The fuel filter traps any dirt and particles in the fuel and prevents the injectors from clogging. But eventually if the fuel filter itself is not changed the flow of fuel to the injectors will be restricted. This will also effect fuel delivery of injectors and consequently the power output of the engine. In petrol engine cars fuel filter is not replaced with every service. But when the replacement is due typically at 60000kms it gets overlooked and starts to get clogged. In diesel cars the story is different as the fuel filter generally has to be replaced every service as per schedule. Due to lesser change frequency the petrol car fuel filters are located in places like the fuel tank or under seat etc. That makes them easier to miss during maintenance jobs.

Even if the car is producing good amount of power the overall performance of the car will depend on the way car handles on the road. Though you cannot expect better handling than the stock car a suspension overhaul can make the car as good as new. If you want to consider a suspension upgrade to make it even better, do consider any consequent effect of using the kit on the reliability or ride quality. There may be unreasonably high cost involved in the upgraded suspension installation also. Restrictions when it comes to further maintenance also are to be kept in mind when going for such upgrades. The safest bid will however to stick to the factory specs and overhaul suspension using quality parts. This will make sure that you do not get any unwanted surprises.

In addition to performing above mentioned activities any abnormality observed during the inspection of the car should also be rectified. An engine oil and filter change if required will ensure the engine runs as smooth as butter. How to Fix a Flat Tire?

You will need the following in your for car tire repair of a flat tire by yourself
  1. Air pump
  2. Tire puncture repair kit containing puncture strips, Hole widener tool and strip inserting tool
  3. A big Screwdriver
  4. Cutting Plier
  5. Car jack and lever
  6. Wheel Spanner

Many have been victim of fraud puncturewalas who damage your tire when you go for a simple puncture. Then they try to sell you a used tire and rob you of your money. In today’s scenario being able to do it yourself is a boon. It is not that difficult task on a basic puncture though it appears to be. By the time you finish reading this article, hopefully you will be confident to give it a try.

Always carry a spare tire inflated to proper inflation pressure in the car along with a working jack. It should be complete with jack lever and wheel spanner. This will help in case you decide to change to spare wheel and continue journey. Fixing a flat tire can be done with tubeless tires only as the tube type old tires are not easy to fix. Tubed tire fixes not reliable even if you fix it yourself unless you have exceptional skill and experience. Any way the kits for tubeless tires are the ones that are easily available. The tubeless ones are the more practical to use and can be fixed easily.

That said I would mention that car tire repair needs decent amount of strength to fix a puncture. If the right technique is used and with some experience this can be done with less effort. Having the right tools will be of great help. Once you realize that one of the tires is flat you have to decide if you have to fix it right away. The other option will be to change it with a spare wheel and fix the flat tire later.

The decision can be made by thinking along following guidelines. But before that park the car in a place where it is safe to stop and inspect. Once stopped try and find the cause of puncture. Follow the following guidelines and proceed.
  1. If the puncture causing object is located at the outer side of the tire tread and can be accessed for puncture repair it can be repaired without removing the wheel off the car.
  2. If puncture is on the front wheel then the access can be made better by steering the car.
  3. If access is difficult to the place of puncture on the tire then wheel has to be removed from car. In this case it is better to use the spare wheel if you are away from home.

To repair the tire puncture first ensure safety by proper parking and use of hazard warning triangle. Position the hazard triangle at a distance which will warn on coming vehicles well in advance. Use hazard warning lights of your car also to warn other vehicles. Keep a strip of puncture ready with the insertion tool by sliding it in to the tool. If air has reduced considerably in the punctured tire fill in air using air pump to slightly more than normal tire pressure. You can judge if a tire has lost a lot of air by visually checking if it is flat. This will help easy insertion of the puncture strip as at lower pressures tend to make it difficult.

Use tool to pull out the puncture causing object and with the other hand use the screwdriver if required to speed up the removal. Once it is out partially a cutting plier can also be used to quickly pull it out. Then quickly seal the open hole using the tool with strip. If the hole in tire due to puncture is narrow use the tool to enlarge the hole before inserting puncture strip. Gradually use pressure to insert the strip with the tool in to the tire. Once only about an inch is left outside the tire stop pushing it further in to the tire. Now twist the tool until it breaks off the strip inside and feels free to slide freely. Pull the tool out and correct the tire pressure using air pump and check for air leak with soap water around the puncture. If there is no leak you are good to go back on road, do remember to pick up your hazard warning triangle. Also cut off the extra length of the strip sticking out of the tire leaving only about 5mm projecting out of the tire.Go to website: www.carworkz.com     Get download app link : www.carworkz.com/app

All the Fuss about Synthetic Engine Oil

Is it good or bad for you and the Environment?

Has it ever happened to you, that you visited a car workshop for the periodic oil change service, and the service advisor asks you whether to use synthetic or normal oil? And you are clueless, so you ask what is the cost involved in both the cases. If yes, then it is time to gain a little bit of insight on the thing. Let’s explore what is the fuss about synthetic oil, so that next time you can make an informed choice regarding this.

What is Synthetic oil?

Normal Oil is technically referred to as Mineral Oil. As evident from the name itself, these oils are derived from natural minerals. Initially extracted as “crude oil” and then processed, refined and filtered in refineries. On the other hand, Synthetic Oils are also refined from crude oil itself, but the refinement process goes a few extra miles. This extra processes not only make the oil free of impurities to a greater extent, it also re-align the molecular structure of the oil.

The job of Engine Oil and why they are required to be changed at all?

The basic jobs of an engine oil are as follows

  • Lubrication: Between moving parts which are in contact.
  • Sealing: Of gaps between piston rings and cylinder walls.
  • Cleaning: keep the interior clean and shining.
  •  Cooling: Take the heat of compression away and exchange it through the oil cooler.

We need to change engine oil at regular intervals, as after a while the oil loses its properties to be able to perform the above functions anymore.

Are Synthetic Oil really better?

For your car engine, synthetic oils are far superior to conventional mineral oils. They serve each purpose better. They can withstand higher temperature and pressure before losing their property. Synthetic oils have a more stable viscosity curve which means, they can be pumped more easily at low temperatures which saves the engine from damage at lower temperatures, as well as they can withstand extreme conditions at highest speeds. They are designed to handle greater torque and shock loads.

So how to decide between the two?

All this advanced technology and better features does not come cheap. The cost of Synthetic oil is roughly double of the normal engine oil. But this fact gets evened out by the fact that synthetic oils can last more than twice the duration of conventional engine oils. Even if you follow the same oil change interval as before, synthetic oils are bound to make your engine perform better and last longer. At the same time, if you are currently changing the engine oil at every 5000-10000 km, with synthetic oils you can safely extend the range to 8000-13000 km and extend your frequency of the car workshop visit. A good way to decide is to check what your manufacturer recommends. If they say synthetic, you must use synthetic oil. But if they doesn’t mention synthetic oil, then it is completely your call, either to go for normal performance at cheaper rates or to go for superior performance at higher rates
